Expansion Project

At the September 19, 2022, City Council approved the allocation of funds for design services for the Paramount Theater Expansion. The expansion will include two floors plus a rooftop deck allowing for multiple performance/rental spaces for the community to enjoy. Staff also plan to expand the programming offerings at the Paramount.

The new space will feature an space on the ground floor that can function as an expansion of the existing historic theater’s lobby or can be closed off and used for separate programming when appropriate.

The second floor of the expansion will house a large multipurpose room that can be programmed in many ways to support the arts in Burlington as well as a rentable event space for your next event.

The roof top deck will be a unique space in downtown Burlington and Alamance County.  This space will be designed to take advantage of the views down Front Street and a space to gather and socialize in downtown on a beautiful evening.  The space will also be available for rentals and have a small stage area.

The historic theater’s brick façade will remain intact and the the new construction expansion will compliment the historic theater.

Design and construction is expected to take 26 months. The one-story building that is currently part of the Paramount lobby (referred to as the annex building) will be demolished to maximize the usable space for the new structure.

Construction is slated to being in Fall 2024 and the theater will be closed during the process.
