The Paramount Theater is currently under renovation, but the programs will continue throughout the community. The jazz bands from NC A&T University and NC Central University will perform on February 13, 2026 at 7:30pm at the Historic Williams High School Auditorium in Burlington, NC.
Dr. Jonovan Cooper will lead the NC A&T band, and Dr. Robert Trowers will lead the NC Central band. Both bands will be on stage throughout the concert and alternate performing pieces. The bands will combine for a finale to remember. When these two award winning jazz bands take the stage, the long-standing rivalry between the Aggies and the Eagles will be on display! “We hope alumni of both universities will join in the festive evening and cheer on their band.”, said Eric Kerchner, Director of the Paramount Theater. “No matter what your affiliation, this is one concert not to be missed.”
The evening will feature songs from Blues for New Orleans (Ellington), Aries Mood (Mary Lou Williams), Blues a la Machito (A.K. Salim), Star Eyes (DePaul/arr. by J. McDonald), Theme for Malcolm (D. Brown/arr. by J. Horton), Corner Pocket – (Basie), For Bossa – (Ellington). Bakiff – (Ellington), A Bientôt – (Oliver Nelson), Black Brown & Beautiful – (Oliver Nelson)
Latin Dance – (Bob Mintzer). The evening will end with both bands playing the Haitian Fight Song (Charles Mingus).
The Historic Williams Auditorium has seen a number of high caliber performers in its illustrious history. From big bands to Elvis Presley, this facility has seen many outstanding performances. Joseph Connor, music teacher at Williams High School, will play the incredible pipe organ as part of a pre-show. The organ is a an amazing feature of the auditorium, and part of its rich history.
